Vintage Tenor Saxophone Mouthpieces

So far ebay has really been an interesting diversion that has shuffled a a little money my way and gotten rid of things that would otherwise be taking up space in storage.

However this week that may change for me.

For background I have been selling things from my father-in-laws estate. He was a high school band director and after he retired he worked as a road man for a few music stores and he also gave private lessons. So he had a bunch of "stuff" mouthpieces, reeds all kinds of things. When my husband was ready we sold a bunch of it to his high school band kids at fractions of the price. I sold a few things and got a feel for ebay but then I went back to work and the stuff sat in boxes again.

It was hard to get my husband really involved with this because he wants the retail price marked on the box. Most of the time the going rate on ebay for similar items is half that. I try to encourage him by reminding him we didn't buy the items so it is all profit for us.

Recently I have been listing the remaining supply and had gotten down the end. All I have left is the stuff that was ugly, probably his, not new pretty shiny stuff for the kids. I guess I shouldn't be so shocked to find out some of it is collectible and valuable. However imagine my surprise when the old looking mouthpiece that I was debating whether or not it was even worth researching, turns out to be possibly worth $450.00. A boost to finish listing what I have left for sure.

Just for fun, please pop over and take a look at my listings.

The first is a Selmer Soloist C** Scroll Shank Tenor Sax Mouthpiece

The second is a Vintage Brilhart Hard Rubber Tenor Sax Mouthpiece #4 this is the one I very nearly listed for a dollar because my first attempt to find anything about it was unsuccessful.

I'd welcome any comments or questions...
